CPR and 1st Aid Training
- In-person CPR and First Aid training is required for all foster parents and relief care providers.
- Please refer to your region in the drop down menus below to find approved CPR vendors who partner with DePelchin.
- Child care will not be provided for CPR training.
- If you choose to complete CPR and First Aid training with an unapproved vendor, DePelchin will not reimburse the cost of training. Approved vendors are listed by location in the drop down menus below.

Division 6, Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR Certification:
June 2021
- (a)Each caregiver must have a current certificate of training with an expiration or renewal date in pediatric first aid with rescue breathing and choking. This training may be through instructor-led training or self-instructional training. [High]
- (b)Each caregiver must have a current certificate of training with an expiration or renewal date in pediatric CPR [Medium-High]. The pediatric CPR training:
- (1)Must adhere to the guidelines for CPR for a layperson established by the American Heart Association, and consist of a curriculum that incudes use of a CPR manikin and both written and hands-on skill-based instruction, practice, and testing [MediumHigh]; and
- (2)May be provided through blended learning that utilizes online technology, including self-instructional training, as long as the criteria in paragraph (1) of this subsection is met.
- (c) One foster parent must be certified in pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR before you place a child in the home. Other caregivers, including a second foster parent, must be certified in pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR within 90 days after you place the child in the home [Medium-High].
- (d)In lieu of either or both certifications, a caregiver may provide documentation of the following:
- (1)Training as a health professional that includes the knowledge covered in either pediatric first aid or pediatric CPR, or both; and
- (2)The caregiver’s employment as a health professional requires that the relevant skills remain current.

Austin
HOPEcpr is the approved vendor located in Austin and has classes each month that are available for in-person training. When registering for a class, let them know you are a DePelchin attendee and they will waive the fee; there is no fee to DePelchin attendees for classes offered through HOPEcpr.

Houston
DePelchin Children’s Center, located in Houston, has classes each month that are available for in-person training. There is no fee to DePelchin attendees for classes offered through DePelchin Children’s Center, and you must register before attending. Please be advised that no child care will be provided.

Lubbock
Lonestar CPR is the approved vendor located in Lubbock and has classes each month that are available for in-person training. When registering for a class, let them know you are a DePelchin attendee and they will waive the fee; there is no fee to DePelchin attendees for classes offered through Lonestar CPR.

PLEASE NOTE: DePelchin attendees must call to register and inform them that you are with DePelchin. When you arrive in person, you will need to remind them again that you are with DePelchin so they can record your name and bill DePelchin directly.
If DePelchin attendees attempt to register online, you will be required to pay up front. DePelchin will not reimburse this expense if you register online.
San Antonio
